Plans and credit packs

The subscription tiers Nabu offers, what each one unlocks, and how one-time credit packs work for subscribers.

Most of the time you don't need to think about plans at all — you write, you ask Nisaba (your AI writing partner) for help, and your credits tick down quietly in the background. But when you want a bigger monthly allowance, extra features, or a quick top-up during a busy stretch, that's what plans and packs are for. This page explains both.

Note: Depending on your plan, the Billing screen may not be visible in your Settings menu yet — during the alpha it's dimmed with a "soon" label. Everything below describes how plans and packs work so you'll recognize them once that screen opens up. Until then, your live sharing surface is Invites.

The short version

  • A subscription plan gives you a fresh batch of credits every billing cycle, plus — on the paid tiers — some extra features.
  • Credit packs are one-time top-ups that don't expire. They're available only to subscribers — a Free account adds credits by moving up to a paid plan, not by buying a pack.
  • You manage all of this on one screen: Settings → Billing.

The subscription plans

Nabu has four tiers. You'll see them as cards in the Subscription section of the Billing screen, each with its own monthly credit allowance and a short list of what it includes. Your current plan shows a Current Plan pill; the others show an Upgrade button.

  • Free — a starting allowance of credits each month and room for a couple of projects. Crucially, all of Nabu's AI craft is available on Free — the full wizard, the Script Doctor, scene writing, Nisaba chat, PDF and Fountain export. It simply runs on credits like everything else.
  • Pro — a much larger monthly credit allowance, unlimited projects, a few collaborators, and some extra features: voice (speaking to Nisaba and hearing replies), ambient intelligence (the quiet background helpers), and FDX export.
  • Studio — an even bigger allowance, more collaborators, team workspaces, and a priority spot in the AI queue.
  • Enterprise — the largest allowance, custom options, and dedicated support. Instead of a checkout button it shows Contact Sales, because the terms are arranged with you directly.

Note: The most important thing to know: the heavy AI craft isn't locked behind a plan. Drafting scenes, running the wizard, getting coverage — a Free account can do all of it. The paid plans add capacity (more credits, more projects, more collaborators) and a handful of extras (voice, ambient intelligence, FDX export). You're never blocked from the creative work for lack of a subscription; you just spend credits to do it.

Note: We don't print plan prices in this manual, because they can change. The current price for each tier is shown right on the plan card in the app. Open Settings → Billing to see today's numbers.

Choosing or changing a plan

  1. Open Settings → Billing.
  2. Scroll to the Subscription section (you can jump straight there — arriving at the Plans anchor scrolls you down and gives the section a brief highlight).
  3. On the plan you want, click Upgrade.
  4. A secure Stripe checkout opens — either as a panel inside Nabu or as a redirect to Stripe's own page. Pay there; you can use a card or a wallet like Apple Pay or Google Pay.
  5. When payment succeeds you're brought back into Nabu, now on your new plan.

If you're already on a paid plan and want to change or cancel it, use Manage Subscription (in the page header or on your plan's card). That opens Stripe's customer portal, where you can update your card, switch plans, or cancel.

Note: Manage Subscription only appears once you have a paid subscription set up. On a Free account there's nothing to manage yet, so the button isn't shown.

Credit packs (subscribers only)

A credit pack is a one-time purchase that drops a fixed batch of credits straight into your balance. Packs are handy when you've got a heavy week — a lot of coverage runs, or generating a stack of scenes — and you'd rather top up once than wait for your next cycle.

You'll find them in the Credit Packs section of the Billing screen, as a row of cards in increasing sizes, each with a Buy button.

To buy one:

  1. Open Settings → Billing and scroll to Credit Packs.
  2. Click Buy on the pack size you want.
  3. Pay through the same secure Stripe checkout as a plan.
  4. The credits land in your balance right away, in the Purchased bucket.

Note: Credit packs are for subscribers only. If you're on the Free plan, the pack cards appear dimmed, the buttons read Subscribers only, and a short line invites you to upgrade to Pro to top up with packs. To buy packs, move to a paid plan first.

Tip: Pack credits don't expire. Unlike your monthly allowance, which refreshes each cycle, purchased credits sit in your balance until you use them — so there's no rush to spend a top-up.

Note: Pack sizes and prices are shown on the cards in the app, and they can change. We don't list final numbers here; the Billing screen always has the current ones.

Good to know

  • Your monthly allowance refreshes; packs don't. A plan's credits are a fresh allowance each billing cycle. A pack is a one-time addition that stays until you spend it. Both feed the same balance you see in the footer.
  • One balance, all your projects. Whatever plan you're on, your credits belong to your workspace, not to a single screenplay. The same pool covers everything you're writing.
  • You only ever see credits, never dollars. The Billing screen shows what you've used in credits — by feature and by project — but never converts it to a dollar figure. The only place money appears is the Stripe checkout when you actually pay.
  • Running out doesn't break anything. If a job needs more credits than you have, Nabu tells you at that moment, with a button to top up — nothing is left half-finished. See How credits work for what that looks like.
