Import & export

Bring an existing script into Nabu, and get your finished work back out in the formats the industry uses.

You don't have to start every project from a blank page. If you already have a draft — in Final Draft, a PDF, a Fountain file, or even a Word document or treatment — Nabu can take it in, read it, and build a project around it. And when your script is ready to share, print, or hand off, Nabu exports it to the formats producers, readers, and software expect. These pages walk you through both directions.

  • Importing a script or treatment — Upload an existing file and let Nabu read it. You'll see what Nabu detected — a finished screenplay, a partial draft, an outline, or a treatment — confirm or correct it, and then watch Nabu build your project. Covers which file types you can bring in, the size limit, and the review-before-it-builds step.

  • Exporting your screenplay — Download your work as a Fountain file, a print-ready PDF, a Final Draft (.fdx) file, or a complete Nabu backup bundle. Also covers the Cast, Scene, and Location production reports you can download as spreadsheets.

Which one do I want?

Tip: Importing and exporting are two halves of the same idea — Nabu plays well with the tools you already use. You can bring a draft in, develop it here, and take it back out whenever you like.

Note: Importing and exporting both happen in the Nabu web app on your computer. The PDF export looks best from a desktop browser.
